ケンタッキー・フライド・チキンのカリホクハッシュのフィレバーガー

ケンタッキー・フライド・チキン（Kentucky Fried Chicken, KFC）はカリホクハッシュのフィレバーガーを2023年4月26日から期間限定メニューとして販売しました。チキンフィレとハッシュポテトとレタスのハンバーガーです。「カリホク」はハッシュポテトの外側がカリカリ、内側がホクホクしていることに由来します。

ファーストフードの定番サイドメニューのポテトをハンバーガーに挟みます。ハンバーガーはパンと肉を同時に食べられる点が魅力ですが、サイドメニューのポテトまで一緒に食べられます。ファーストフードはハンバーガーとポテトを一緒に注文してもらって客単価を上げたがるものです。ポテトを挟むハンバーガーになると、フライドポテトの注文が減るかもしれません。ファーストフードにとって勇気あるメニューです。

KFCではハッシュポテトを挟むハンバーガーは前例があります。KFCは2020年6月17日から日本での創業50周年記念としてデラックスチキンフィレサンドを販売しました。これはチキンフィレサンドをデラックスにしたメニューで、ハッシュポテトやチェダーチーズを挟みました。

カリホクハッシュのフィレバーガーはBBQと辛口、凄肉の3種類あります。BBQと辛口は味付けの相違です。私は辛いものは苦手なため、BBQを注文しました。辛さをアピールするだけの期間限定メニューには安直さを感じます。BBQもソースの味付けが強烈であり、喉が渇きました。ポテトそのものを味わいたい向きにはソースが余計に感じます。

凄肉はチキン2枚でハッシュポテトを挟みます。パンで挟むというハンバーガーの固定観念から脱却します。同時期に日本マクドナルドは漫画『ONE PIECE』とコラボして「ごはんチキンタツタ」のキャンペーンをしています。ファーストフードのキャンペーンは月見バーガーなど重なることが多いですが、KFCの凄肉は突き抜けています。2016年にはピザ風のチキン「CHIZZA」を期間限定販売しました。
